「コレステロール神話」 (8) インスリン抵抗性、糖質、中性脂肪
脂肪肝とインスリン抵抗性には著しい相関関係がある。脂肪肝の主要原因はフルクトース。
“the correlation between fat in the liver (fatty liver) and insulin resistance is remarkably strong…. What causes fat to accumulate in the liver? Fructose.” (p. 104).
- “Sugar is a major contributor to inflammation in the artery walls.”
- “Hypertension, high triglycerides, and a high ratio of triglycerides to HDL are all better predictors of heart disease than cholesterol. Sugar, or more specifically fructose, raises every single one of them.”
- “High levels of both sugar and insulin damage LDL particles in the blood, making them far more likely end up incorporated into artery plaque” (p. 106)
- “When sugar in the bloodstream sticks to proteins, it creates damaging and toxic molecules called advanced glycation end products, or AGEs.” (p. 106; emphasis in original).
- "AGEs are “artery-damaging” and “fructose is seven times more likely [than glucose] to form” them (p. 104).
・高血糖は酸化ダメージの重要な開始剤である。
“high blood sugar… is an important initiator of [oxidative] damage” (p. 71).
・中性脂肪値を低くする最も簡単な方法は低糖質食。
“To lower triglycerides… The easiest thing [is] low-carb diet” (p. 59).
インスリン抵抗性検査が極めて重要な理由は二つ。一つは、インスリン抵抗性は最も強く一貫した心臓血管疾患の予測因子であるから。
“Insulin resistance—pre-diabetes—is one of the strongest and most consistent predicators of heart disease” (p. 185).
もう一つは、インスリン抵抗性検査によって、疾患が疾患として現れる何年も前に、ときには10年以上前に、すでにインスリン抵抗性があることがわかるから。
血液検査で高血糖が見つかるときはすでに症状は相当進んでいる。
“Get tested for insulin resistance. … It can reveal problem years, or even decades, before you get a diagnosis of either diabetes or cardiovascular disease” (p. 14) “You can have insulin resistance as much as a decade before the other, “more conventional” signs of heart disease show up, making it all the more important to test for insulin resistance” (p. 185). “Problematic blood measurements, such as high blood sugar, are actually the markers of dysfunction that show up fairly late in the game” (p. 13).
“diabetes or cardiovascular disease” とあるのはインスリン抵抗性と糖尿病・心臓血管疾患とが密接に関連することによる。
